Three things really struck me about this season's debut, and i should first mention that i have been a long time fan right from the first season with wendy peppar, michael, kors, and austin's corn husk dress..🙂 first, the rebooting of the host and judges smacks of drew carey and new models replacing bob barker and several long time models on the price is right. It might be the same formula, but the fit is questionable...
No pun intended. I think it will take a few episodes to see if this group, with nina as the connective thread to the past, will eventually win over a very loyal fan base. Very much hope so, but the jury is out.
Having said that, two moments that defined this episode. First, mimi's brave revelation that she is transgender, breaking new ground on PR as the first transgender model, and Kovid's truly sweet, supportive reaction with the similar stories of overcoming and oppression they share. There's a true bond forminh here. Now, the not so good. Frankie's save after she clearly had the worst garment on the runway. Yes, a bad break that her model's measurements were unexpected, but all designers know that they have to expect a make it work moment in the competition. Very unfair and poor judging against Kavanaugh, Whose dress, while uninspired, was well made and did not rely on help from everyone in the workroom to complete it. Too bad the judges were unaware of that info. Even so, while getting to know them, now there is a credability issue they have to overcome.
But, the season is just underway.....we'll see, and hopefully the host, judges, and mentor can all "make it work".
