Denis has truly succeeded with her latest film, which is a deeply disturbing but eye-opening portrayal of what we as humans are capable of doing when there are no consequences, no judgement, and no future. Although the events take place in the vast abyss of space, High Life is in fact a prison film that depicts some of society's most distressing issues that seemingly cannot be avoided due to unescapable human desires. However, due to the constant presence of serious and often distressing subject matters such as rape, murder, and sex, some may not enjoy or appreciate the movie. It is not an easy film nor is it entirely pleasant, and the ending leaves the viewer with an uncomfortable feeling of intrigue that requires much deep thought. But with that being said, this movie is one of the best I have seen in quite some time. Robert Pattinson gave a stunning performance that further defended his standing as one of today's greatest actors, and his portrayal of both a hopeless criminal and loving father is simply phenomenal. The visuals are beautiful, and both Juliette Binoche and Mia Goth gave fantastic performances that are not to be missed.
