After watching the movie I was not at all surprised to see the negative reviews online. It's funny how meticulously they pick apart movies like this that show complex black characters. True, at it's heart it is a generic "save my daughter" story, but being a single Black father of two girls in Louisiana I could relate to this character and enjoyed this movie more than any in the MCU. Yes, I said it. At first I wasn't too keen on the beautiful and talented Dominique Fishback being relegated to a "I wanna rap trap girl" but that was the shallow view of a deeper pool. Soon I saw some of my friends in her character. The backdrop was real to me. Could it have been better? Of course...if it had Disney kind of money and pull behind it. I could see this being a franchise with Project Power being simply the first leg of an urban super hero race. I think the cast did a fantastic job.
