You're going to see the same elements here from LOTR, because that's the mack daddy of fantasy settings, and you basically see it everywhere (either intentionally or unintentionally). The issue with this show isn't the similarities, but rather the lack of meaningful events, dialogue, characters - it's so incredibly thin, that I have a really hard time focusing on the show itself. When characters die, I rewind the show a minute or two to know why I should care. There is no grit, no bond, no glue, that pulls the viewer in (for myself at least). There are moments, but they are, well, like butter scraped over too much bread.
