This book is an excellent first-person account of the experience of drug addiction, and the experience of jails and prisons in this country. Mr. Hayes employs an efficient economy of words, allowing him to fit a lot of story in a small space, without it feeling rushed or like a powerpoint presentation instead of a good book. This book would be an excellent way (hopefully) to get through to those who think addiction is merely a choice to use or not use, and that the decision to continue to use drugs is somehow just a lack of character, but the truth is it's a powerful disease, and "Just Say No" is not an effective deterrent. Aside from the message, it's a great book, easy read despite the heavy topics, and I read it in a few sittings. Looking forward to the next one!
