There isn't really any other movie nowadays that made me think "Wait..." to go and check if it's really made recently and not the late 20th century. Everything from the acting, cinematography, down to the color grading really sets me back in time. However, while it may seem fresh today, Pearl is comparable to horror movies from the era it's trying to replicate. The plot and how the characters are handled, for example, will make you feel like watching Misery (1990) all over again. But then again, Pearl has a distinct charm that earned it's popularity, and I think it deserves it, Mia Goth deserves it especially.
