It's typical Stephen Knight, who's obviously a frustrated poet, and puts the most ridiculous words into his characters' mouths. His last TV drama, This Town, was similar in this respect. Here, the Paddy Mayne character is Tommy Shelby with a bad, fake Northern Irish accent, forever talking total bollocks. It's so unbelievably boorish, and boorishly unbelievable. If Paddy Mayne did actually speak to his superiors as depicted here he'd have been instantly court-martialled. And, it seems to have escaped Stephen Knight that one of the reasons our armed forces have historically been so successful is their discipline. In this, the elite fighting force which is what the SAS actually is, behave like a bunch of absolutely vile, ill-disciplined, childish rabble, especially Maye himself, one of the senior officers. I watched two episodes but won't be watching any more. Absolute garbage. I should have known it would be - The Guardian give it a 5* rave review.
