Brilliant movie. Had me enthralled and inspired from the first line to the last. Wonderful love story - absolutely. But even more amazing, intriguing (and sad) was the discovering the relatively recent story of Prince Seretse and Botswana. And apartheid and racism in general. Haven’t watched such a fantastic movie in a very long time!

Adored the book. But the movie was awful! None of the charm or wit of the book included. And major points from the book disregarded in the movie ie Juliet goes straight to Guernsey after just 2 letters from Dawsey; she says yes to Marks proposal; the Islanders don’t want to be part of a book etc etc. And Amelia Maugery just comes across as a bitter old woman instead of the kind and caring character in the book. Very very disappointing movie and have since given away the DVD.

Terrible remake of a great cartoon. Worst acting I’ve seen in a very long time. Introduction of a stupid feminist theme for Jasmine in which she refuses to be silent and aims to be sultan. Every character has an obvious American accent and every costume and scene is super neat and clean and unnecessarily colourful. Don’t waste your time with this movie - watch the cartoon instead!
