The premise of this show has so much potential, and that is the only thing that keeps you going back as it is otherwise absolutely awful. The scripting and the poor acting are amongst the worst of any show of this type I have seen (very akin to Bling Empire or Selling Sunset), and that makes the characters (who we are to assume to be real people) totally disconnected and unlovable. The mother comes across as the most shallow narcissist who tries to find any excuse to wave her sex life, or an actual vibrator, around the office, which is, at best, tacky and unprofessional...the "at worst" speaks for itself. The only character I have any sympathy/empathy for at all is the youngest son desperately trying to hold on to the religious identity he's been raised with. As this whole show is about an escape from fundamentalism it is bizarre that the effect it has is to make you root for the success of the one fundamental we are presented. The rest of the family succeeds in proving themselves loathsome vapid creatures with far too much money to throw around, without the endearing qualities that some of the, very similar, Bling Empire characters at least present.
My greatest disappointment is that this subject matter should have been so much more fascinating and engaging, and potentially even helpful to those feeling trapped in fundamentalist faiths. Instead they'll probably decide they are better off where they are, than selling out their souls to overscripted hype media.
