Hands down, one of the best movies that I have ever seen.
When I say this, I can promise you that I’m not over-reacting. The only other animated movie that made me cry like I did while watching Soul was Meet the Robinsons.
There’s so much that I loved about this movie!
One, being that I’m from New Orleans, so the scenery and the jazz music reminded me of how things are at home. I may not play an instrument, but I share in the same passion that Joe (the main character) had for music. If you love music, I’m sure this aspect of the movie will draw you in as well.
Secondly, I love love love how beautifully they displayed the African American community! It was wonderful seeing our community represented in such a beautiful and authentic way!
Thirdly, the meaning behind this movie was EVERYTHING! My favorite scene was when Joe came back to his earthly body, and remembered his memories with 22. He sat at his piano and composed a song of her life on earth. It was such a beautiful piece of music! I guess that’s where it hit me that life truly is about living. I sobbed because I recognized that I, myself have stopped myself from really living in certain areas of my life.
What makes this movie as great as it is, is it’s MEANING! When you watch this, you will learn something from it; it has PURPOSE. It will touch you. I can guarantee you that!
Great job Pixar! You’ve convinced my husband that animated movies can be wonderful, and have purpose and meaning too. At times, it didn’t even feel like it was an animation because of how you truly connect with Joe’s character.
Soul is now definitely one of my favorite -if not my favorite- animated movies. I will be watching it again sometime soon! 10/10!!!
