As a mainly hip hop/rap fan, this album really changed the way i look at music, and for the better. The album is a left hook compared to the previous work from the duo, such as Homework, Discovery, and Tron. (human after all in comparison doesn't match the slick production of other projects) The album begins with a bang, with "Give life back to music" which features the legendary guitarist Nile Rodgers. His guitar style perfectly compliments the production and instrumental that Daft Punk provide. The next song "The game of love" takes an emotional dive into dying love, and attempts to relate with the emotions of a human being. The masterpiece that is "Giorgio by Moroder" features narration and vocals by none other than the king of disco, Giorgio Moroder. The drums on this song are absolutely incredible and truly expose the genius of the duo. The song "Within" is a beautiful piano-led piece explaining the true size of our existence as people in the world. The song "Instant Crush" is a smooth love song featuring Julian Casablancas' somewhat unorthodox but understandable vocoders. The song "Lose yourself to dance" is the first of two songs to feature Pharrell's lyrically-repetitive falsettos. It features a smooth and nostalgic 70's disco feel, which makes the song enjoyable for those especially who lived through that particular era of music. The song "Touch" is simply incredible. Paul Williams' voice is amazing and the crescendo up until 4 minutes in is masterful. The song is in a POV of someone who is relieved to be real, to sense touch. The hit single "Get Lucky" features Pharrell again and Nile Rodgers, as his guitar proves to be absolutely flaming. The sexy production along with Pharrell's improved falsetto makes the song a huge moment in the album. The song "Beyond" seems like an epic change of pace, but is actually an emotional ballad that describes the feeling of being in a dream, or not being real. The song "Motherboard" is a gorgeous track with a surreal production feeling. The song "Fragments of time" is in my opinion a near-perfect spacey soft-rock track featuring a great vocal performance by Todd Edwards. The song "Doin' it right" is an exciting vocal performance by both Daft Punk and Panda Bear, who adds much-needed vocals that make this song extremely infectious and enjoyable. The final song "Contact" is an unbelievably epic ending to an incredible album. It features a background message by the late astronaut Gene Cernan, proving to be the POV of the listener, in space looking at the planet beneath you, feeling what no one else is feeling. The song moves into an epic crescendo, before ceasing in a distorted fashion, finishing the album off with a bang. Random Access Memories is one of the best albums of the 2010s, and easily has some of the best production ever known to man or robot.
