I hate you Darren, and I hate Oyeyemi even more.
All of this book is just meandering. There is no meaningful purpose derived from anything in this book, because we hardly spend anytime on it. This is not because the book is fast paced (even though I wish it was), rather it is due to so much nonesense happening within the span of over 300 wasted pieces of paper. Think about this, instead of the thousands of copies of “Boy, Snow, Shit” we could’ve gotten that turned into dollars to fund children’s charities. That would’ve made happiness because I know no young person would be happy reading this. The first third or so takes thirteen goddamn chapters to get to the SECOND sentence of the blurb. It is just pointless filler, that no one enjoys because to enjoy reading filler where you spend time with the character, you have to LIKE the character. Boy is one of the most if not THE most annoying fictional characters I have ever seen, only behind Helen Oyeyemi’s father. The rest of the book is just grotesque nonsense after grotesque nonsense. The book refuses to focus on a single theme or plot, instead preferring to scatter the story as well as my brains across the wall after I commit. If I could give this shit zero stars I would. Overrated as hell bro everyone is an NPC;
