The first season was really good, the second was not as good but extremely watchable. I looked forward to the third season and as a singer, much influenced by Aretha Franklin, was overjoyed with their choice.
Therefore, my disappointment was great at the extremely poor quality of the third season. It really seemed, particularly during the second half of the season that the writers had gotten bored with themselves, and towards the finale, it seemed they had quit altogether.
Repetitive cliches, very little plot or narrative, no character depth. The actors were left with nothing to work with.
Cynthia Erivo delivers a one-note performance which is ironic. She can sing, but I'm not sure she can act, based on this display.
The only redeeming character here is the father, portrayed by Courtney B. Vance, who also, unfortunately, devolves into cardboard by the end of the season.
It was so poorly executed, I recommend everyone just skip this season and hope for better next time around - if there is one.
