Tedious. Seriously unlikeable central characters right from the beginning, so you don't care about either of them. Presumably it is supposed to be a 'clever satire' on attitudes and relationships but I was just bored. Rosamund Pike was wasted on this.

A hard watch, which should be shown as a party political broadcast before every election. This shows EXACTLY the essential attitude of the likes of 'Boris' Johnson and David Cameron to the rest of us. I should know as I was at Oxford, albeit in the 1970s, and encountered such idiots regularly (showing them the total contempt they deserved, obviously, not that it made any difference to them). With luck a few more people might stop idiotic ally voting Tory all the time.

Uninvolving, unfortunately. Excellent photography and solid acting from many of the leads, especially Emily Watson, but somehow the viewer is always left lacking empathy with characters most of whom are too one dimensional. Worth a watch but no more than that.

Well worth watching, the mood is exactly right for the subject matter. Very pleasing to find a film managing without sex scenes, physical violence (though full of mental cruelty) or unnecessary 'action' sequences. Beautifully played.

Dire tosh, needless violence throughout increasing as time goes on, you don't care about the central character at all, the actual story is putrid etc etc. Utterly worthless and a pity Carey Mulligan wastes her acting talents in it. Can't she get more intelligent roles?

Tripe, banal story in the main, superficial and badly plotted, at times quite ludicrous. It appears to think it is meaningful and deep, but it isn't. Stephen Rea and John Hurt are as reliably good as ever but their appearances are unfortunately too limited. Natalie Portman is as bad as usual, and unfortunately her role is far too extensive. Terminally bored about 80 mins in so stopped watching.

Moderately interesting initially but ultimately fairly vacuous. Promised much more than it delivered. Terrible acting by Kim Cattrall didn't help. Weak ending. As if we don't know the UK is just a toy of US interests antway.

Ho hum, pretty tedious apart from the brief Hackman/Washington stand off. What you expect from the period for an American war movie. Interest pretty much lost half way through. Watch Das Boot for underwater tension and drama, not this shouty mediocrity.

Tedious, unrealistic, needlessly violent murder/suicide storyline etc etc. Boring central character with unlikely relationship with family members. Nothing of interest to keep me watching. Having just viewed an episode of the West Wing the difference in character engagement was embarrassing. Who watches this stuff? Why? Unintelligent and seriously disappointing given all the media hype.

Gosh, an intelligent film for once. And no, I haven't read the book. Stunning sets and photography, thought provoking, comedic moments, interesting spotting bit part players (an incredibly young Toby Jones, Ned Sherrin!, Jimmy Somerville, Quentin Crisp!! etc.). Tilda Swinton is superb.
