I recently watched the doc, “Lucy and Desi: A Home Movie?” by Lucie Arnaz about her parents’ marriage and challenges. Lucille Ball, as portrayed by Nicole Kidman, was a woman ahead of her time (and Kidman will likely will hear similar things said of her in her lifetime). That being said, I was entranced by Javier Bardem’s Ricky Ricardo. What a man. To have used his formidable talent, charisma and wits to create Desilu Productions as a vehicle for his wife’s formidable range and to maintain undying devotion to his wife, in all the ways available to him, throughout the epic changes they endured…ahhh… I can’t say when I have seen that before. On the other hand, I’ve never had a husband who slept around (that I know of) so maybe that infraction is unforgivable. Apparently Lucille Ball thought so. Precious film by all involved and an elegant walk down memory lane.
