Thank you for allowing Steve Hartman to make me laugh and wipe a tear every Friday night. My family and I would watch together for a great start for our weekend. We liked it so much that we set our DVR for CBS Evening News every weeknight.
Also thank you for allowing Jeff Glor to anchor the broadcast. He was able to present the news so that everyone could feel that the news had been reported, even if some of the "reporters" used editorial words and comments. Jeff's clarity, impartiality and heart showed his character which is uncommon in today's "Gotcha Journalism." Jeff Glor will truly be missed.
But I am writing this note to explain why I have deleted the timer on my DVR and will not be watching CBS Evening News. I watched CBS This Morning enough to see that Nora O'Donnell is part of the "Gotcha Journalism" that is so disturbing to people who want the news reported. I repeatedly watched as she would attack Congress and Business people that did not agree with her point of view. Ms O'Donnell would not allow the "guest" to answer unless he/she agreed with her point or until she had asked the same question multiple times to make her point. This is not reporting the news, this is editorializing and should be left to Face the Nation or the editorial pages of a paper.
To try to be fair I watched the start of the CBS Evening News tonight, 7/15/19, but within the first 20 seconds of her "reporting" she "editorialized" by using "racist tweets" instead of just "tweets."
She did not qualify the comment with "what has been called" or other options. I had hoped we would see a change in Ms O'Donnell's tone, word choice and attitude with the responsibility of being an anchor at CBS Evening News, but my fears were realized. I hope the leadership at CBS Evening News will help her grow into the anchor that the nation deserves or stop advertising "truth" and "understanding" and replace these with "point of view" and "attack journalism."
