I wanted to give this a five because there are some great elements- superb acting, a good premise and excellent special effects. But I can only give it a two because the actual story doesn't make sense. And here's why:

The concept of the story is about alien creatures who hunt through sound, the only sense they have to detect their prey, no sight or smell. The family has limited technology to work with, but they have some, and they have weapons. Yet they never try to kill these things. They never set traps to lure them, they never build any soundproof rooms. They go around barefoot all the time, presumably to not make noise when the walk. Have they never heard of moccasins? The father is working on a hearing aide for a child who is deaf, yet never thinks to use sound feedback on the creatures? It isn't until the end that the idea is stumbled on by a child. This story had so many holes it could be swiss cheese.
