This movie is about love and friendship which motivates the actions of characters on the screen. It's also a movie about complex character of Tom who is torn between lady love and loyalty to his mob boss. It's his character which is complex and portrayed quite powerful by Gabriel. Crime and violence just on surface . Deep down its it's mind and large heart of man who is so subtle yet clear on his conscience. In his dream his hat go away but he doesn't go after it. Very brilliant depiction of emotions. There are couple of loose ends but movie stays with after long time. Must watch for folks who love gangster and neo noir dramas.

I wish I could have watched Martin Scorcese movies in the order he made them but after watching Taxi Driver, Irishman, Goodfellas , The shutters island The Departed , Casino, The Silence, Cape Fear , and now the Mean Street. Amazing movie, Putting his life experiences into some of the classic themes which he later dwelt upon like Quilt , Catholicism . I have still lot of catch up other movies like Raging Bull, Hugo , who is knocking on the door. Loved the sound track.

Was curious to watch this film, after reading initial reviews. Was able to find on net. Couldn't complete in one go. My criteria of best movie is that if I start watching, I should not stop. In short great acting by Hardy but it looks different pieces joint together haphazardly.
