The French…I’m telling you!
Why can’t they make satisfying ends to psychological dramas in film?
That’s the most frustrating part because besides the end, ‘Anatomy of a Fall’ is a top notch legal thriller, one where you’ll be hopelessly absorbed into the story to the point of borderline claustrophobia, one where the acting will floor you. Heck, even the dog played well.
This is a psychological and dramatic ‘whodunnit’ and after all that crescendo, all the build up, all the emotion and all the tickling of one’s curiosity, the director came up with the most disappointing and asinine ending.
This is the equivalent of great sex, including subtle attraction, wining and dining, gentle holding of hands, then sensual foreplay followed by the most extraordinary and intense sexual encounter you’ve ever experienced only to…..NOT ORGASM!
It’s the French exception I suppose. At least ‘Anatomy of a Fall’ won the Palme d’Or in Cannes last year whereas the woke Oscar academy will probably think it’s not woke enough coz the main actor and the dog are too white or something.
