They don’t make ‘em like this anymore. The comedies of today aren’t funny and watching this film proves it. I haven’t laughed so hard from watching ten contemporary comedies as I have in this one. The timing, the writing, it’s all so well done, so sharp. Felix (Jack Lemmon) has been kicked out by his wife and in danger of suicide. Oscar (Walter Matthau) takes him in as his wife and kids have left him and he’s got an eight-bedroom apartment all to himself. But Felix’s fastidious domestic habits drive Oscar’s bachelor tolerances up the wall. We see these mismatched guys inexplicably tied together.
