Some people who grew up from the late 90's and early 2000's really like this movie, and I don't know why, this is the worst Godzilla movie of all time. When Warner Bros. released the far more superior 2014 movie, they were aimed to bring back the true and real Godzilla to American audiences the way it was meant to be. When Roland Emmerich and Dean Devlin made this tobacco of a popcorn flick, they admitted they hated the original Godzilla and they told Patrick Tatopolous to redesign him but not giving him atomic breath, making him look like an Allosaurus with bipedal spikes, and not making him durable. But instead by making him have the ability to reproduce asexually, making him lay eggs, giving him a crotch, and making him shriek like a cat. The CGI is awful, the pacing is awful, the acting is awful, the dialogue is awful, and the running gag in which everyone in the film mispronounces Nick's last name gets annoying really fast.
The characters all look like the main characters from Friends. In fact, this looks like a very bad episode to Friends. And the army is really stupid in this movie, like when Godzilla was chasing the helicopters, they could have just levitated up higher. And Godzilla was a huge coward in this movie as he keeps running away from the army, since the army is making more damage to New York rather than the main monster. And they also killed him off way too easy, since the original Godzilla was durable, but in this movie, he was killed by missiles and I never felt any sympathy for him when he died.
Also, the film rip's off Jurassic Park and Aliens. The Godzilla eggs look like the Xenomorph Queen's eggs and the baby Godzilla's are basically the Velociraptors from Jurassic Park and they even try to make them sound like the Jurassic Park raptors.
And this is Maria Pitillo's only onscreen appearance and she never appeared in another film since. And it’s pretty understandable why, she’s awful! She's annoying! She cannot act at all! One can’t help but wonder how much better or worst Godzilla would have been had a better actress been hired for this iteration.
But on the positive notes, it gave us the cartoon series that proceeded it which was much more better and Zilla was mentioned in Godzilla, Mothra and King Ghidorah: Giant Monsters All-Out Attack as a jab to this movie. And Zilla was added in Godzilla: Final Wars, just so the true and real Godzilla can kill him on screen. But as a film adaptation to the best movie monster of all time, it's inferior to the 2014 movie. And for those who prefer the 1998 film over the MonsterVerse because it focuses too much on the human characters and not the monsters, then you are a fanboy blinded by nostalgia. And I feel so very, very, sorry for you.
