The movie itself is fine because of the acting skills that pulled off the characters (Who were not developed by way), the immaculate chemistry between KathNiel, the display of tourism in the Philippines - specifically Cebu, and the amusing and healthy portrayal of Filipino families. The cinematography and visuals are undoubtedly great.
Though despite those, there are some problem areas regardless of the movie. The plot was too mediocre for a romantic-comedy film, the lines of the characters are average too. Very pick-up line and cheesy. I just didn't like the idea of love at first sight between the characters. It was very unrealistic because a 6-year-relationship shouldn't be taken over with just one night of being with a stranger. We didn't even get a flashback between Gab and Jason's love story.
I believe that they're only in love with the idea of each other. Dos was problematic that night and he wanted to get married because he knew his time on earth was limited. He liked the idea of being with Gab for a lifetime even if they didn't even know each other deeply. He just plainly assumed romance.
Gab too was a very problematic character but I get where she's coming from. Her mom was pressuring her to not repeat the same mistakes and she's stayed in a relationship where she couldn't say no because she was too busy pleasing other people. She likes the idea of Dos being carefree and independent. She likes how he pulls her away from her suffocating life, like an escape - that's why she fell in love with him in Cebu.
They came together and got infatuated with each other. They made the big deal out of it. I don't even understand how they fell in love for one night, they don't even have similar interests to share and they don't know each other that deeply.
To be honest, the conflict could've been easily resolved by Gab telling the truth to her fiance because, common sense, he's a lawyer, but due to some terrible decision-making, these characters seem to make things worse by causing misunderstanding which heats the drama more.
I also felt like Gab was emotionally cheating with Dos but made herself believe that she was trying to fix the problem. She blames herself a lot for trying to be perfect but also choosing to make mistakes and hiding them. which is not a good quality of her.
I didn't have a good first impression at Dos too. He was calling her "Misis ko (My Wife)", kept insisting himself to her even if she's completely uninterested in him, and was priding his "marriage" with Gab to his relatives even though he knew they're not committed that way.
What made me happy about the movie was the resolution and the character development. Dos let her go, apologized for ruining Gab's life, and finally became selfless. Gab also admitted her faults, resolved her issues with her mother, made things clear between her and Jason, and of course, my favorite part was when she and her father has a heart-to-heart talk.
Gab's father told her, "The mistakes that we did, those are our mistakes, You have your own mistakes because you have your own life Gab. So stop living your mother's dreams for her."
In terms of romance, this movie isn't the best but you get something out of it. The KathNiel fanservice though is 10/10, but plot-wise? ...
It's an average good movie.
