Hated it... I don't mean it in a jaded way, which is the current prism of my life. It simply was a picture in which the director at some point went "screw it, that's what we'll go with." The setting is great - a simple but well-executed look into the mid to late eighties and its street life. And then we have a plot that wants to be, but has, in itself, nothing particularly interesting or new to say. The actor portraying Rick is honestly one of the worst "serious" performances I've watched in recent years. Some inexpressive figures sip in time and again, but not that cheaply dramatically null and jarring at the same time. The movie, as the plot, wants to be. It has the necessary ambition, but, as most movies do, it lacks focus or, as Rick Senior would say, it lacks vision. It dies about 40 minutes in. It wants to be, so much. It just isn't.
