As KL mentioned before, it is a bit disconcerting to see that at the top of the Vietnamese and “African” restaurants are white males . It would be nice to see the home chefs compete against a restaurant with a chief of color as executive chef. Even more concerning, as mentioned below, was how the show lumped “Africa” ,a huge and very diverse continent, and spoke of it as if it were a country, while all the other episodes focused on individual European or Asian countries. Very uninformed this day and age and even stranger that the home cooks had no issue with this, as they themselves were from very diverse areas (Zimbabwe, Cameroon, Kenya )within the continent of Africa. Every time the stated “African food” it was cringe worthy as the food in this diverse continent could not be more different from country to country.
This all said the show is entertaining and I love a food show with a competitive /reality show aspect. The hosts are also quite well versed in food and nice to see diversity there.
