I'm a massive, massive fan of the original and I've read some of the middling-to-bad reviews this film is getting so I wasn't expecting great things from the film particularly. However, I think I'm one of the very few who enjoyed the movie and consider it a worthy and engrossing piece on its own merits. Certainly the film is challenging - most of what passes for cinema nowadays is slop, and the new 'Suspiria' asks far too much of anyone who could actually enjoy a superhero movie - but judging by what I understand of the film's artistic ethos, politicizing, humanising and expanding on the caricature stylishness of the original, the film was highly successful on its own terms and is a thought-provoking, intriguing and in many respects necessary movie.
