Oppenheimer: Self-Important & Lacking Depth
I’m not a Nolan fanatic, but his other movies have always seemed to work, thrilling and captivating me the whole way through. I had high expectations for Oppenheimer, as the subject matter and opportunity for depth is so great. The emotional moments were overwritten and oversold, and “witty” moments unearned. This felt to be neither the genre nor subject matter that Nolan is best suited for.
Cillian’s performance was captivating in between overacted scenes littered with (hard to keep track of) A-listers who trusted the tame & bland vision of a genius director.
