I watched this series in 2001-5 and thoroughly enjoyed it, but I recently binge-watched it again and can't believe how it has stood up to the test of time. Still very relatable and relevant. The old phones are the only giveaway to the time period. I really enjoyed watching it at my own pace and without any episodic interruptions.
This is so well-written and the characters are so flawed, much like real life, instead of the one-dimensional ones you usually receive on television. Each character is so well-acted that they become real and you want to yell at them and tell them how stupid they are acting at times. Talk about a real-life walking dead. The funeral home as the setting for this whole series was inspired and brilliant.
Cudos to Alan Ball, to each and every actor in the series and to every person involved in the making of this wonderful series. It is sometimes difficult to watch because of how real some of the character's situations become, but ultimately even the cringworthly and difficult parts make sense. I yelled at my television many times to let them know my opinion about their actions.
The soundtrack selections were so good that I ordered the soundtrack CD back in the 2000s and it holds up well too.
