I have been thinking about this movie nonstop since I saw it yesterday. It is an accurate and thought provoking depiction of the horrors of WWI, and bigger issues of war in general. The main character is caught in an impossible dilemma between a ruthless enemy and the murderous mindless stupidity of his own side. His struggle to survive and even reduce the level of death and destruction which surrounds him makes for an inspiring story which still avoids glorifying or minimizing the horrors of war.
