NAHUM TATE version of King Lear is a bold attempt of re writing Shakespeare roughly about seventy years after Shakespeare had written his play .The play is a tragedy by Shakespeare but Tate has made it a comedy. His accusation was in Shakespeare honest people suffer and dishonest thrive.It is against Natural justice and hence it must be revised and there are other reasons also. In the original,the good Cordelia suffers but in Tates version she is crowned . It is interesting to note that in India, aTamil novelist Vaduvoor Duraisamy Iyengar,as a votary of Nahum Tate wrote a verse drama in Tamil following the version of Tate The title of the Tamil drama is Mangayar Pagattu, Deceit of Women.
