First off—I have to say that some of these reviews completely baffled me…it appears many white viewers were ‘scared’ there was going to be too much Asian culture seeping through in this series? Many of the compliments after that just seem entirely back-handed—as if these viewers were surprised they could enjoy a show without a majority-white cast…
But anywho, this show was fantastic. It was humorous, artistic, engaging, and twisted. The dark undertones of the show were supported by the theme of childhood trauma—something that anyone, regardless of background, can relate to. we get to watch as these two characters with completely opposite financial situations and lives struggle with the boughs of depression, anger, and insecurity. While undeniably entertaining, this show also emotionally taxing. A series of unexpected events fall overwhelmingly out of hand; however, the raw emotion and character development spins this crazy story in a way that feels believable and relatable.
A season two would be such a treat—but then again the first season is such a beautiful film project that it could absolutely stand on its own as a finished piece.
