I don’t understand the low reviews this movie is getting. Maybe fans of romcoms are mad that it’s poking fun at the genre? *shrug* I mean it’s not particularly intelligent but it is SO MUCH FUN! I saw many plot twists coming a long way off, but even when I did, the actual execution was always enjoyable. The comedy worked for me, the characters were more self aware and willing to accept their faults than most movie characters, the action was satisfying and balanced between realism and cartoonishness in a way I found satisfying without being totally ridiculous, and above all the actors convinced me of their characters. It’s not going to win an Oscar, but so what? I loved it!

It's not a masterpiece, but I don't understand the low ratings I've seen. I called the plot twists pretty quickly, but this film is more about the journey and making peace with the past. I enjoyed the ending and while the setup could drag at times, I feel it did the job just fine.

With children, Christians and the mentally unwell acting according to longstanding Hollywood tropes instead of with verisimilitude, it's either offensive or goofy depending on your beliefs.
