I love games where you can craft and customize the things you’ve made. And Animal Crossing really allows you to go into great detail with the things you make. It was a lot of fun watching my deserted island slowly become more populated and beautiful with all the things I added.
As far as online play goes, it looks like It could be a lot of fun, but I didn’t have a use for it because none of my friends play the game, and the game doesn’t seem conducive to meeting people you don’t already know, which makes sense as this is a game for young children. At first I was upset by this because I felt I couldn’t easily leave my island an explore other's but I quickly learned that Nook tickets aren’t that expensive, but it does limit individuals who can’t meet other people online.
My biggest gripe with the game is the limit of one island per console. Thankfully as an adult I don’t have to share my game, but if I had to share with siblings I would want my money back. I paid nearly sixty dollars for a game that I can’t share with my family! It’s really limiting for only one household member to be able to name and create an island. Furthermore, whoever plays first could easily use up all the island resources leaving nothing for other family members. I wanted to let a family member try the game, but then I had to delete their character when I realized that they would interfere with my island design. Not to mention the subpar experience of being a second player who doesn’t get tutorials nor advance the storyline. I believe this forced sharing mechanism actually makes me want to share less. I would love for people to visit my island, but having someone else in my household making changes is not cool. This actually creates a lot of tension and difficulties with people you are sharing with and the game no longer becomes a relaxing escape. I would warn parents who only have one switch console to beware before purchasing this game. But otherwise it’s super awesome if your the only one playing!
