Mahanagar is a Bangali movie directed by Satyajit Ray and released in 1963. The story is about a middle class Bangali family in Calcutta in the early 1960s. Bhambal works as a banker and supports his family. There are five person in the family; his wife, parents, sister and his son. Money is tight to maintain their family. So his wife, Arati takes a job. But her in-laws doesn’t accept it properly. Because it was so untraditional that women can do a job. Her father-in-laws replied with a hint of disapproval about it. Arati continues her work. She is successful and enjoys it. She also starts to support his family. In her work, she had friendship with Edith, an Euro-Indian lady. After some incidents bank come to shut and Bhambal loses his job. Her work is necessary. He loses self dignity and it makes distance between them. When her boss does an injustice with her friend, Edith she protested against it. She resigned her job. Then she think about that if anyone misunderstand her what will she do. She told her husband about that. He support her. He told that you have done the most difficult thing, you protest against injustice. Hearing this she feels easy. In the last dialogue of the movie where Arati says, ‘such a big city and different type of jobs here; will we not able to find a job?’ Her husband says, ‘I hope we will do it together.’ That’s the hope of life. If we want to know about the importance of women impowerment we should watch the movie. Movie shows that how hard it is for a women to maintain her job. Showing a simple character movie shows women can contribute to her family as man does. Madhabi Mukharje and Anil Chatterje is the main protagonist of the movie. Arati is the most potential character in Bangali cinema. As Mrs. Mukharje portrays her character is so remarkable. Mr. Chatterje’s acting is so peaceful. All the actors give a great performance. Most important thing of the movie is its content which is till now relevant. Thanks Mr. Ray for this excellent and unprecedented work of art.

Close-up is a movie which can do this effectively. Close-up is an Iranian movie directed by Abbas Kiarustami released in 1990. This is a dramatic combination of documentary and fiction. The movie based on a true story. The story build on a man called Shabzion who is a big fan of Iran’s renowned director Mohsin Makhmalbaf. One day he was reading a script of The Cyclist (directed by Makhmalbaf) that time he meet with a lady Mrs. Ahnakh. Mrs. Ahnakh said that she is a big fan of Makhmalbaf. Suddenly Shabzion said that he is Makhmalbaf. Mrs. Ahnakh got astonished. They talked together and he took her address. Introducing him as Makhmalbaf he went their house sometimes. He propound their son for acting, told that he will use this house for acting and take some money for support to make a movie from their family. But Mr. Ahnakh had a doubt in him. He told his journalist friend about it. After knowing everything his friend said that this is not real Makhmalbaf. He is fake person. They called the police. Police arrest him. Staying lockup for some days, they take him to the court. Here revealed the real truth. We see the difficulties of his life. See the badness, poverty, shortage of his life. When Shabzion said in the court, ‘I say about my sufferings, it’s not acting’ that’s make us emotional. We feel his pain which he go through. Then what happened with him? What about Ahnakh family? And what about real Makhmalbaf? To know about this you have to watch the movie. This is one of the most mooted movie of Abbas Kiarostami. Abbas breaks the barrier between lives and cinema. This is the cinematic visualization of true event. We also see the social and economical condition of Iran. When kiarostami read an article about this incident he became interested to make a movie on this. At the time of Shabzion’s judgment, he take permission from the court and shoot it. There is no actors in the movie for it characters. All the characters related with the incident acted in the movie.

Golpo Holeo Satti is a Bangali movie directed by Tapan Singh and released in 1966. Basically it’s a comedy film that revolves around a joined family. There are three brothers, their father, their wives, their nephew and niece in the family. Movie starts in the morning when all family members are busy in their housework. They had one bathroom in the house and it became a race with against another to go fast. It becomes their daily routine. In that morning their house servant came and said that she will not work in this house anymore and leave the house. All the family members fall into troubles. They told their niece, Trishna to do all work. They searching for new servants. Some people come but knowing all about work and salary they lost their intention and go away. One day a man, named Dhananjoy come and said that he wants to work. They told him everything and Dhananjay agree to work. Dhananjoy is a hardworking person. He works hard and perfect. He knows about music, poem and novels. Everybody likes his work. He changed the whole family. In that time their niece, Trishna had a relationship with her friend. Once their family member found her friend in their house. They beat her. Dhananjoy told her grandfather about that. Her grandfather protect her. In the meantime some some thiefs make a plan to rob the house. Then, what happened in the family? What about Trishna’s relationship? And what about Dhananjoy? To know this, you have to watch the movie. Every dialogue in movie is important and judicious. Director reveal his sentiment about our culture, cinema and literature. In this modern era how sexism exists and how capitalist society uses female figure for trade advertisement. How bangali people be dependent on others in their work. Discussion about intellectualism, modernism and philosophy is so relevant. When their little nephew, Pintu singing a song ‘Sukh bole utho sari, ghumayo na ar. A jibon gele fire, ashe na ar.’ Hearing this song, they think about the philosophy about life and the viewer also. The movie attatched the viewer so quietly. While I am watching this movie I think the movie is made in recently rather I am in 1966. This is one of the best classic movie in Bengali cinema.

Movie starts when the lead role Shakhar and Shaila meet and fall in love together. Having a lot of difficulties they get married and started living together. Their family became complete when they get their twin chaild. Day by day their family starts to accept them for their grandchild. Then it comes in the moment when flashy,violent Hindus starts to demolish Babri Mashjid in 1992. Riots broke out int city. People are killed and the politicians took advantages from it. Then what happens in Shaker's family? What about their child? What about their parents? What about this scetarian act? What is the role of mass people to control this situation and their solidarity? To know this you have to watch this movie. The acting of all characters specially Arvind and Manisha's is super. Arvind's emotions when he first saw Manisha, first confession with her, emotions for their child and responsibilities are so heavy. Manisha acts so prodigiously and sensitive. She looks so calm. Another important part of the movie is it's background music and songs. The enthralling musics are directed by A.R.Rahman. Cinematography and scenario of the movie is extremely impressive. Finally, Bombay is a gem of art.
