A good cast let down by a confusing, meandering storyline. Pared down to basics, it might have been an adequate straight to dvd movie, but, this deserves to be forgotten. Considering the edit was supposed to be by the incomparable Thelma Schoonmaker, I can only assume that she was playing hooky on that day, as this plot made no sense whatsoever. Can we talk about the line readings? You know how if something is dubbed, and the dialogue seems stiff, and stilted? I’m assuming that the actors were directed to all deliver lines this way. Or, perhaps, lean into the C4 Scandi-noir of it all. Either way, the director did the cast dirty. Maybe Let The Right One In was his one and only decent movie, as this was an utter disappointment. The cinematography, however, and the makeup effects were superb.

Not a bad movie, and great for me to watch while doing a bit of hand sewing, as the constant dialogue fairly skips along, however, there will naturally be a comparison to the Exorcist 3, which does this conversation with a demon in a far superior way. I would like to see SPF in more movies though, as he’s the standout here. This makes a good double bill with The Devils Candy, btw, as that’s how I watched it.

Middling, predictable and run of the mill.

I’ll put my cards on the table....I’m not a slasher fan, but, I’ve seen far better than this. I’ve had a whole day watching new horror movies that have dropped on streaming services over the last few days, and this has been the most disappointing. Plus, at no point was it scary, or even tense!

I realise that the movie took a severe drubbing at the cinema, but, honestly, it’s a perfectly serviceable film. There was nothing that I found objectionable about the cast, effects, screenplay, or music. I don’t always need the Marvel experience, just a Sunday afternoon movie that I can watch while having a glass of wine, and doing some sewing. It’s a good film, people! Don’t be so precious about King!
