The acting, directing, score, and cinematography are all excellent, but the story is a massive insult. The movie goes out of its way to convince you that it's the stereotypical "dysfunctional white family moves into haunted mansion" story, complete with some excellent slow-burn scares early on but in the end it's just about Jude Law being a terrible husband and father in an aggressively flat and uninteresting setting where NOTHING happens. Save yourself the trouble and re-watch some Hitchcock.
