The bones were there for this movie to be a good movie. But the out of place sound track, along with the obvious push to make this a movie about "strong women" clearly showed that this was a movie for women, instead of a movie for all audiences.
I have no issues with women being in positions of power, but when it's done in such a way where it just feels out of place, like in the scene where an entire team of Marines was composed of only females, just makes it feel forced.
Yes, this is a scify movie, but if you're going to inject real life scenarios in the movie, at least try do it so in a sensical way.
All that said, my biggest issue with the movie was the sound track. Whoever thought that soundtrack was a good idea clearly doesn't understand action movies.
