Of course, you would have high expectations from a movie like “Sanju”, which has an excellent cast, a fascinating life story of a popular Bollywood star, catchy songs and above all it’s a Rajkumar Hirani film. But the movie doesn’t match up to those expectations at any level.
From the start, I could not feel Ranbir’s portrayal of Sanjay Dutt. It felt like something was missing, a dissimilarity was quite perceptible. Superficial details were given more prominence than the story. And the movie unfolds in a somewhat twisted way. It appeared as an attempt to join disconnected parts together to make something meaningful.
Acting by Ranbir was not appealing either. He very well came into Baba’s character but only in the external sense, like he dressed, walked, talked, behaved like Baba, but somewhere in doing that he missed out on the essence of the scenes. You might feel like it’s Sanjay Dutt only but nothing more than that. Anushka Sharma is in the movie too, but she did not act, she just overreacted in every single scene. It was utterly disgusting to even look at her, very off-putting.
On the other hand, Paresh Rawal and Vicky Kaushal did a commendable job. They were what you could probably say “movie savers.” Vicky Kaushal was just amazing; nobody could play his part better.
Need I say anything about Sonam Kapoor, pathetic as she always is!
Compared to Biopics like “Bhaag Milkha Bhaag”, “Paan Singh Tomar”, “M.S Dhoni: The Untold Story”, Sanju stands nowhere close.
