Going into the movie, I think it was unfair to be apprehensive of Will Smith as Genie. To expect Will Smith to be Robin Williams does Will Smith a disservice, as Smith has his own talents to bring to the table, and bring them he did. Will Smith's Genie was incredibly charming, and a character that all ages could relate to. Mena Massoud's Aladdin was charming, giving a realism to the slick-talking, clever character we knew from the animated classic. Naomi Scott as Princess Jasmine was exactly the kind of Princess that kids today need to see: forward thinking, but not afraid to embrace her femininity while not letting her beauty define her. The animation, the colors, the entire aesthetic of the movie was spot on in my expectations of what this movie could be. Although the songs were altered, they were done very well. They kept to the original spirit of the music from the animation, while giving them a life of their own. Well done, Disney and Guy Ritchie!
