I played this game on the PlayStation four, and it was so beautifully created. A wonderful storyline with an underlying sadness, and puzzles to solve. You could even ignore the storyline to explore the fantastic island you find yourself on. Just be warned, this story can and WILL make you cry. I'm not very emotional and by the end of the game I was sobbing.
SPOILERS AHEAD!!!!!
Ok, so the story starts with you waking up on an island with no memory of your past. Adventuring onto the island you find yourself in an area with four pillars of light you must "activate". Upon activation you gain your first ally. The vulpine I like to call the hint fox, as it shows you where you need to go but overall accompanies you along your journey. Eventually your journey will lead you to a deserted place where you fight and kill a bird. Before you kill it, though, you see these rather scary pitch black creatures with glowing white rings for faces. They seemed to emerge from the petrified statues of other people. Don't worry about them yet. I played this game a while ago so I don't remember the story exactly, so forgive me if anything is wrong. You end up finding a strange orb who accompanies you throughout another area, and you give it legs. Then ride it to another island where it molds into a statue and basically dies. I cried at this part and I'm not gonna lie, I'm on the verge of tears just remembering it lol. Your character is a bit affected by this, and by now you have a few pieces of memory. Not a lot, but a bit. You just don't know that yet. Skip ahead because it's mostly just puzzles and avoiding certain "death" from the pitch black monsters, and you're in their land. The fox is helping you activate things but seems to be growing weak. After you activate them all you enter the center and the fox collapses. In a rush you pick it up, as if begging it to stay. Then it fades away in your arms... The one who stayed with you throughout the whole journey. They're gone. I didn't even cry at this part because I was so shocked. Writing it now I started crying so that's a thing lmaoo. Overcome my grief, your character turns to stone, but the stone cracks and falls apart, revealing you. A pitch black human with glowing white eyes and the red cape you've had since the beginning. Getting through this part which can be hard due to the whole possibly bawling your eyes out thing. (I beg you, take a break before you proceed after each death. It's hard to play through the tears in your eyes.) You come to a pit that the other black guys are jumping into, and you join them. Cue the memories unlocked. You were fishing with your dad when a storm came, and you fell off the ship. Your dad tried to save you but lost his grip, and you fell in. It turns out, all this time, you were dead. A lost soul trying to find out how it died. You are now the dad. Going down the hallway, you go to your son's room, where you sit on his bed and mourn. Then your character appears again (the son), and they share a touching hug before the son pulls the same disappearing act the fox did. This game is beautiful and I highly recommend it to anyone who enjoys a beautiful story and a great puzzle game.
