Didn't you know that Christopher Columbus not only discovered the land of the free, but also was a great writer? He was the one who wrote the amazing book House of Secrets!
Although this is not true, I was so fascinated by the author's name that it became one of the reasons I bought this recently published fantasy masterpiece. Chris Columbus and his friend Ned Vizzini (who, unfortunately, passed away in 2013) wrote House of Secrets not even imagining that it would be seen by J.K. Rowling herself. The famous Harry Potter author was shocked and amazed by the House of Secrets content, “A roller coaster of adventure!” she stated while being interviewed about this book. I totally support her opinion!
Normal siblings, normal conflicts, and non-stop fights. Everything was normal until one day it wasn't. This story takes the reader on an adventure that shows how witchcraft and trouble can change people's relationships. Three kids woke up in their new house that was suddenly turned into a raze inside by evil magical forces. What was their reaction to the unexpected change? The siblings - Brandon, Cordelia, Eleanor - found themselves on the cold floor after being blacked out. Seeing each other, but not their parents around. The shocked kids couldn't even describe how bad the damage was. All they could think of was how similar the scene in front of their eyes resembled the aftermath of the tragic tsunami in Japan.
There, inside of the house, were horrible chairs, tables and flickering lights that brought creepiness to the atmosphere. While the kids were scavenging for their parents, they noticed a window. At first, they didn't note anything strange, then instead of sunbright California their eyes met a dark gloomy forest that reached further than any eye could see. Of course, they were frightened. No parents near, not even a slightest hint where the adults could be, no idea about their own current location either, with hostile magic all around them - how would they get back to their normal life? Poor kids, they could not even imagine what was expected for them deep down inside the dark forest…
House of Secrets is a wonderful detective fantasy that got me intrigued by the adventures. From the beginning to the last letter I enjoyed every turn of the plot, and even the boring happy end did not spoil this impression. So you can basically burn the last chapter even before starting to read the book. This way, your reader's pleasure will reach the top.
