Well… I am deeply disappointed by this film. But I do have a theory that there’s a reason why it’s so poor… could this film be one big joke and intentionally self-sabotaging?
I somehow think that Lana (director) wanted to create a meta satire film of the original trilogy as some scripting takes direct and indirect swipes at Warner Bros and the idea of a sequel itself I feel? Perhaps Warner wanted to continue the franchise and Lana put the final nail in the coffin to avoid any further in the series out of spite. If you go to see the movie, keep this in mind. Either Lana has been smoking crack since the end of revolutions or she’s wanted to stick a big middle finger up at Warner. Perhaps she felt forced into making this movie due to rights and purposefully sabotaged it? In contrast to the original trilogy, this felt like a parody or B Movie re-hash.
The following points are absolute truths: poor scripting, disjointed story, plot holes, gimmicky characters/actors (there’s a flying stingray and mini sentinel robot that jumps about like a cartoon character). What the writers did to the Merovingian was the icing on the cake for me where I started to really feel this film was purposefully self-sabotaging. Fight scenes are sluggish, no real bullet time. The ‘game’ principle makes no real sense as it’s a movie.
The film doesn’t follow much of the lore in the matrix universe, characters are thrown out of their traditional roles.
Anyone giving this more than 3 stars needs to stop smoking the wacky stuff.
