I have never written movie reviews before, but this one compelled me to. I do not wish for anyone to watch this movie unless you really have a lot of time to kill. I will keep this spoiler free for the sake of future viewers, but trust me there is no extraordinary 'plot-twist' and the level of interest it aroused was equivalent to staring at a wall. The following are my key takeaways and of course, my subjective opinion.
1. Bad acting, for lack of a better explanation. As someone who isn't very familiar with the south-indian film industry, I can't speak for the side cast. I certainly expected way more of Anushka, but I suppose deaf and dumb is not a right shade on her. Madhavan is the only one who can be called decent out of the whole cast, but his share is rather tiny.
2. Painfully obvious plot with virtually nothing that stands out. The first scene establishes something and your mind immediately latches on to that idea. The movie, however, does not follow that (thankfully) and goes in a different direction. This looks promising in the beginning but towards the middle it just begins to hurt.
3. Long, useless montages which add nothing to the plot. As an Indian I am rather used to footage which is just there for scenic addition at the very best, but in a mystery/thriller I want my story succinct.
4. Some movies have a great build-up but the climax lets you down. Is this movie's build-up impressive? No. But is the climax worth it? Also no.
5. In my honest opinion, the movie could have done away with narration altogether, but that sure isn't in the top 10 issues with this movie.
6. Seems like a hurried piece of work. You can see they tried, they did want to make something of good quality. What they failed to do was write well and show the audience more than what a tour bus in Seattle would. The location also seems kind of forced, in a way that Seattle could very well have been Hyderabad and it would make 0 difference to the story.
7. The length is not worth it. At all.
8. Some movies keep you grasped, especially when they are mystery/thrillers. This movie isn't one of those. You could possibly not sit through without wavering because it gets super boring at some points. Again, I blame the acting for that.
9. I WISH I had seen the IMDb score so I could have steered clear of this one.
10. It also has a classic good cop-bad cop side story, and you will instantly know who is who. Just adds more normalcy to an already normal script.
If you have reached the end reading this, you know exactly how strongly I felt about this movie. Should you choose to start an adventure, and have time on your hands, this movie could be a go-to. But don't go-to it if you want to watch a decent mystery. Cheers!
