After the disappointing Xmen Apocalypse, the hype was low for another xmen film. The general audience wasn't begging for another mutant movie so everyone (even Fox) could see that it was going to be a flop from a mile away. The overall plot was predictable and underdeveloped. When Jean Grey engulfs an extraterrestrial object whilst on a space mission, she begins to lose control of her powers and memeries locked away reappear. This leads to a divide between the mutants as Magneto and his gang believe she is too dangerous to be kept alive and Charles tries to save her. Michael Fassbender gives another great performance as Magneto as he vows revenge on the death of a loved one. His character arc is very similar to his one in Apocalypse as he is living peacefully until certain events lead him to become evil again. The other performances are average and forgettable as the actor's are clearly fed up of playing these underdeveloped characters. The villains of this film have little impact on the plot and the film could work just as well without them. Sophie Turners acting concists of crying and looking blankly as she tries to convey that she is losing control and is a dangerous threat to humanity. The film also lacked any memorable fight scenes so it felt like a drag as it didn't have any creativity and style. In the end, Dark Phoenix is a bland superhero film that will be forgotten as the xmen rights have been sold to Disney and the characters will hopefully be treated better. Alright acting, dumb action scenes and lack of plot makes for a uninspired movie but a good watch.
