Excellent production! Following the novel, it starts slowly and gradually gains depth and momentum through rich character development and evolving interpersonal dynamics. You can’t help but feel a sense of pride as an American, especially in how it stands up to the legacies of the great English women authors of the era. The portrayal of strong, independent Yankee women, combined with the exploration of family dynamics set against the backdrop of Civil War-era New England, the story is warm and moving. I appreciated the attention to detail in the home interior set designs (Civil War Era/Victorian). The production is beautifully staged and shot, with a well-curated cast that balances fresh talent with seasoned stars like Michael Gambon, Emily Watson, and Angela Lansbury.

Well, I enjoyed the movie and in equal parts was revolted. The actors were brilliant but Woody is a pedophile flaunting it behind the First Amendment and we all enable him. Allen gives the Weinsteins of the movie industry their comeback roles and a rainy day for the #MeToo victims.

Much more sympathetic than the shadow story of the real-life scandal. Well cast and beautifully made. Dangerously normalizes the relationships but not without its victims.

Loves it! A timeless personal and family drama that looks deeper into the political economy of Empire particularly focusing on feminism and racism which have been previously overlooked in earlier productions.
