In fact the similarities between this fine movie and No Country for Old Men are so striking in story line it is obvious the No Country............ was directly lifted from Charley Varrick, same as Dances with the Wolves story was also directly lifted from Samuel Fuller's 1956 movie Run of the Arrow. In both cases the more recent version despite all the praise given them do not stand up to the original ones in both their construction and story line. No Country..........also had lifted some material from Frank Tuttle's 1941 movie This Gun for Hire as the merciless killer also turns against his superiors. Anyway, Charlie Varrick is a fine movie and one enjoys watching it time and time over.

Just watched this movie and found it much better than the Georg Wilhelm Pabst movie of 1955 about the same event. I believe the failure of the officers plot to get rid of Hitler was because it was not planned well and it lacked the support of some top ranked generals with strong back and spine and with huge support in the German military of the time, such as Von Runstedt, Kesselring, Guderian, von Manstein and the like. The names of these top general had a lot of traction in the German armed forces of the time and so without their support the very brave von Staufenberg and a few junior officers supporting him could have not accomplished the coup by themselves alone.

There are great similarities between this film and the movie: Ride Slow, Ride Deep" 1958 directed by Robert Wise, with Harrison Ford in the Clark Gable role and Liam Neeson in the Burt Lancaster role. However, both films were great and performances of the lead actors are excellent

Midway is an excellent movie and surpasses the 1976 film version. With fine action scenes and good acting. It demonstrates a time and era when patriotism was admired and personal sacrifice for the sake of your country and your colleagues was revered. A different time and era which seems so nostalgic today, and the wives of officers are real supporters of their husbands. As everyone knows, the Battle of Midway was a defining moment of the War in the Pacific, and at that time after the blow on Pearl Harbor and lack of readiness of the American Navy (as well as the Army and their air arms) placed America at a perilous position. Yet, the Navy commanders and officers and sailors were willing to put their lives on the line to stop the enemy's advance in the pacific. There was a great sense of national identity and unity at that time, of the sense of who we are and what are our ideals for which we were fighting. Midway is a magnificent piece of production. No wonder that it sold well at the box office.

Super excellent film in every aspect.

Why is it said at the beginning of the movie: March 3, 1942, after the fall of Corregidor. Corregidor fell on May 6, 1942 and not on March 3, 1942. Why such an incredible mistake was not corrected/
