This show is trash and not the good kind. I finished it, but only because I started it and wanted to see what happened. There are so many plot holes and so many actions that the characters take that make no sense. The acting is also terrible across the board. There are some spoilers coming up.
It seems like they started with the basic concept of the initial video and the idea that someone could be cat fishing as him, and then created all of these other plot points, characters and details just to make you think the murderer was someone else and make it to 8 episodes. There is no character development or attachment to anyone. When Dawn first saw Nick on a dating app and started messaging as him, why didn’t he get a notification? Why did none of these women ask to FaceTime and how did they get so invested in these relationships without at least doing that? Why did the catfish send photoshopped pictures of Nick and the women to them? Why did Emma lie about meeting Nick in person? What was the point of that? What was the point of including the info about Sophie’s affair and Matt’s harrassment of a student? Finally, why did Nick go to the catfish’s house after he was kidnapped? The list goes on…
The show is disrespectful to anyone who has been affected by suicide or any woman who has been abused, assaulted or murdered. This show validated all of the people who do not believe women when they come forward and take any lengths to believe the man is innocent and makes a woman the villain, when in reality there are so many rapes and murders of women that go unsolved and the police don’t care about. If you are looking for something to watch, I would recommend Unbelievable, a show based on the true story of a young woman who is assaulted and villianized. The only decent thing about this show is that it is diverse.
