Dali and The Cocky Prince finally ends last night, right on pepero day, with a predicted happy ending. Was I clowned with all those sweet kisses at the end? No... I wasn't.
If you are a veteran viewer of K-drama, the plot itself is a typical; you can clearly predict how it ends, even how and when the conflict appears and turns, as well as what hides behind each character. If you are a hardcore to drama theories, I don’t recommend this drama.
As I watch drama as a mode to entertain myself, I usually refrain myself from investing to mediocre performances. Yet, there were two things why I stayed investing my energy to watch Dali and The Cocky Prince.
First, the actors seem to be genuinely enjoy the drama shootings. I do believe a happy process leads to a good result. Main leads Kim Min Jae and Park Gyu Young are not yet the actors that grab viewers heart from the first time, but they have a lot of potentials in the future. They seem have fun to make their own interpretation of on-drama-relationship. The fact that they are not in-a-huge-age-gap sunbae-hobae (whom sunbae should lead the scene), make the battering that usually happens in the rom-com to be sensibly compatible and pleasing to watch. Thus, it made what we expect is what we get. Furthermore, if feelings can be transferred through screens... yes it shines bright, and I see the sparks, jaggiyya ;)
Second, I like the context the drama had brought. Bringing upfront banalities versus delicateness is difficult. Not to mention, stage it up to popular taste, with a consensual requirement of a rom-com; that the leads should collide each other. As the leads represent each two different worlds, I was curious how the idea would be carried on till the end. Surprisingly, they stay to the rule really well. Both the cocky prince and the gallery director maintain to act that suits to their backgrounds. Some love and life issues tackled by each main-character in a manner of highlighting their contrast world. Even when the two lead take their relationship to sail, their friends, and their two different worlds still revolve on their own. If you are a K-drama addict, you know yourself that at minimum; a reliable plot is worth to invest on.
Yet, I do wish all these sparkles also given to the supporting characters. For example, they have the ever funniest gamjatang secretary there, which unfortunately did not appear much. My comment goes to other supporting characters as well, including the trio-gamjatang.
Learning from this, I wish, K-drama producer, director, and writer really think the possibilities of their drama to be a better stepping stone for everyone involves. Nonethelles, K-drama is on global stage now.
