Absolutely a beautiful masterpeice. Not sure if this would be a spoiler but withitn the context of the drama, I will say that the finale isn't a lovey dovey ending. I find that there are a lot of veiwers who say the only happy endings in dramas are good, sad ones make it feel incomplete and not sastisfying. For Youth of May, that is 100% not true. If you are sensitive and cannot handle realistic endings, then this one might not be for you. But going through the plot and character development, I have absoulelty no complaints. The characters are down to earth and each have their own goals to achieve in life besides looking for validation in love. In my opinion, there were no characters that acted wtihout thinking or reason and many of their backgrounds are explored indivually. All the relationships formed too were beautiful with an amazing cast to play them.
Besides showcasing the romance relationships between Hee Tae and Myeong Hee, it really brings light to one of the most important movements Korea's history that brought forward human rights. The Gwangju Uprising was a brutal moment for the people in and around the area, with many casualties to innocent civilians. Releasing Youth of May really puts the viewers into perspecitve of how real the world is built today. The incorporation of innocent and youthful love with a harsher political and social context is like a trip back to the memories of 1980's.
