This movie was at times difficult to watch for those of us who struggle with any form of mental health & the breakdown in our medical system that often leaves many as myself without access to proper medical care & medications. He was viewed by his peers & society as a freak which led to isolation & a vast misunderstanding of himself. Adding the pressures of poverty & his own mother’s failing health, who could question the ultimate breakdown. “Hollywood” has fallen into the rut of all the fast paced, action packed comic book movies that they cannot appreciate the art of this movie nor the performance of Joaquin Phoenix. This movie is reminiscent of a time when movies set themselves apart & rose to become more than just the mind numbing messes that continue to spill onto the mainstream movie scene today.
