I loved the book until we got to Coy’s story. With no warning my 6 year old granddaughter was reading to me about a little trans kid. I am not on board with having that confusing discussion with my granddaughter at 6. And she was confused. We are watching, in real time, the culture create this situation where it’s now “cool” to be “binary”. Kids are making life altering, irreversible decisions as kids allowed by some “woke” parents —who also think it’s cool to have a trans kid. How about let kids make those decisions when they are of age. Not 6 years old. I recognize there are some kids born with this difference- but it is very rare and I’ve seen handled well in communities and schools, but not in a kid book for ages 6-9 with no warning. Kids have a long time to be adults. Don’t sell me a book for a 6 year old without letting me know this. I am so mad. Don’t buy it. The Ann Shen books are better and with much better illustrations.
